primer problem
« on: March 11, 2007, 10:01:32 PM »
It has only occured 3- 4 times in about 3,000 reloaded cartridges but the primer some how is upside down.
I'm using an xl 650 dillon press with auto primer. I know the primers were all correct when inserted into the primer tube. I can't explain how it got upside down and that is not my concern. Here is the question how can I safely correct this when the cartridge has powder and bullet in place, can I use my bullet puller and remove bullet and powder and then how do I safely remove the primer from the case or should I just dispose the case with the primer in place?
Thanks for your help

My Dillon SDB sometimes flips the primer over as the primer rammer passes through the shell plate, catches on the edge, and snaps in place. I v-e-r-y- s-l-o-w-l-y run the cases through the depriming station as I cringe, squint, grit my teeth and wait for the POP! So far and about 50 times later, no detonations. I separate those primers out and reuse them up in monthly practice matches or for plinking rounds.

We just throw them away when that happens and then blow off/clean out around the primer seater with some canned air or something.
