Long period correct scope for my 45-70???
« on: January 07, 2007, 07:39:23 AM »
I have a fine 45-70 Rem roller.  It shoots fine, but I'd like to take a gander at one of 'em long period correct scopes for it.  My eyes just don't see well enough to get my groups as small as I'd like at 1000 yards.

DD, Dixie Gun Works used to carry one. I believe Navy did too. IIRC, there was an article or two by Venturino on a company named RHO(?) that had a fine one available as well as mounts..................Buck 8) ::)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

D.D.,
FYI...
'For Sale' - Romano Rifle Company Malcolm 6X 3/4" Scope, blued finish, built to fit on a Pedersoli Sharps '74 with a 32" barrel. Scope itself is 37", m/l, has dovetail mounts front and rear to fit a Pedersoli, windage on front mount. Adjustable eyepiece and front screw cap. I had the scope built new and took delivery of it in early 2006 when my eyes were going bad, but they got worse before I could have fun with it and I've had to go back to tang sights.
A Product Review on Larry Romano's Malcolm Scopes can be seen on page 56 of the Black Powder Cartridge News magazine, Summer issue 2005. Larry makes them as close to the originals as possible, i.e., historically-correct.
New the scope runs $975 plus S&H, it cost me about $1,000 delivered, m/l, the first $650 gets it 'AS IS', in this case 'AS IS' indicates it had been mounted and taken off only.
The scope will be at the NCOWS Convention Show & Sale on Feb. 15, 16 & 17 only, I'll take CASH or trade.
Larry has a few pics of his scopes mounted on Big Bores on his website: www.romanorifle.com
Click on 'Accouterments' and scroll down to the pics on the bottom of the page.
If interested let me know and we'll work something out.
Best regards and good shooting!
'Ol Gabe

Howdy Gabe,

Thanks for the offer.  I'll consider it.  Not sure I'll make the convention cuz of stuff happening here at the studio.  I will get back to you.

Also, thanks pards for posting.  I've been learning here.  I'd sure like to look thru one of these scopes before I plunk my money down.

Dick, I ran into the same problem shooting my Pedersoli Sharps. The scope made all the difference in the world. Mine came from RHO. Extremely high quality. Comparable price. The only downside is there's a long waiting list. Ordered mine in November 2004, he said it'd be ready in May. Silly me, I thought he meant May 2005. I got it in May 2006. It was worth the wait.
