Dimensional differences between Uberti and Pietta 1851
« on: July 14, 2020, 11:03:31 PM »
I'm interested in learning more about the dimensional differences between the Uberti and Pietta reproductions of the Colt 1851. I understand that the Uberti is the closest thing to a recreation of the original 1851, while the Pietta has a longer cylinder and a shorter forcing cone on the barrel. Along with that I know that the Pietta 44 Navy is a fantasy gun that never existed in history before, and has a step in the frame to allow the larger stepped barrel like in the Colt 1860. Besides that I am not sure how the frames may differ between each other, let alone from the original Colt 1851 besides the modern alloys for the parts.

Some more specific questions I am curious about. Does the barrel of the .44 Pietta have a greater outer diameter than that of the .36 caliber Pietta or Uberti? Could I hypothetically take a Uberti frame, mill a step in it, and switch in a Pietta 44 cylinder and barrel?

OK .... I'm In

SPJ, My flat shop rate is $63.50 an hour.  Unless you wish to pay that rate for time on task, I strongly suggest you invest in a Micrometer and Calipers.  Visit a gun shop and do your own research.  You'll remember it longer that way.

I forgot.  Normally, I don't lean on folks for being curious or asking questions about their own gun or guns.  I try to be informative and provide accurate useful information.

It has become fairly obvious, you have little to NO experience with firearms.  You've never paid your dues shooting Black Powder cartridges nor Percussion Guns.  Parked in your Arm Chair expecting others to do your research for you.

You have rapidly become a TROLL

I'm sincerely sorry for having offended. I'm not trying to be a troll. I'm a engineering college graduate who is honestly interested in the different aspects of reproduction firearms and manufacturing. I admit that I have no experience yet, but I want to get into reenacting and CAS. I just want to learn from those who already have the knowledge I want to learn. I find coming to others like this is the best way to learn, at least it is for me.
