Shaping hats
« on: September 19, 2005, 01:18:46 PM »
I have a couple Sunbody palm leaf hats. I was wondering if I can shape them or does everyone just wear it the way it comes. I was thinking I could wet it and maybe use the misses iron. What do you all think?

Thanks! BSB

Just throw it in the hoss trough and get it wet. Reshape it how you want it, then set it on the crown and let it dry. If it doesn't turn out the way you like, return to step one.

Howdy Slim,

Just get the hat wet, hot water works best.  If the shaping isn't to yoru liking, re-wet it.  Really the easiest hat of them all to work.

Adios,

Thank you for being you.. Annie Lee!

I just filled the sink with warm/hot water. (we have a deep sink) Held it under for about 10 seconds and tested how pliable it was. If it was still to stiff, I dunked it again.

Another note here, these fellas give good advice, I recomend these to learn shapin' on.  But in a dry enviroment such as most houses in winter or the South West US, it is a good idea to dampen the had once a month or so, this will prevent cracking and flacking from being too dry.

A spray bottle with water works fine.

Thanks, pards.
I'll try it on mine. It has a cattleman's crease which I despise, but it was given to me.

Hat creases are like a personality. You need several different ones to fir what type of mood that you are in. I wear a western hat of some sort the year round, not just CAS. I wear a western hat as part of my uniform as a Deputy Sheriff in Texas. These hats have to be a certain type with a certain crease. I wear a western hat when I Team Rope.  My CAS hats are all extreme versions, which are tall crowns and wide brims. Western hats are also a useful coverup for a rapidly receding hairline.
