Best 1887 Lever Action Reproduction
« on: May 14, 2014, 11:47:27 PM »
I have been looking at a lot of reviews on youtube of the different brands of 1887 shotguns, and they all seem to mention having ejection problems, is there one that is better than the others or would the money be better spent on an original, or are they going to have the same problems?

You'll have ejection problems with most 2 3/4" shotgun shells, since the shotgun was originally designed for 2 1/2" shells.  FWIW, my IAC 87 has no problems ejecting Winchester AA shells as long as I do my part.  I am picking my 87 up from the smith after having the stock shortened, which should help as well.

From what I have seen, is the IAC the best bet? it seems like people online have had more problems with the Chiappa and Century guns than the IAC one

I am getting mixed accounts on the IAC 87s, but mine works fine.  I avoid anything from Century now.  Chiappas are being sold by Taylor & Co, they are good folks, but $1200 for an 87?  I bought my used IAC for $350.

The man to talk to is Lassiter. Top right guy.

Gunfighter extraordinaire. Master of the 1887. I watched him in Florida run a six plate rack with the 1887 in under five seconds. He can make the two round load work like a charm.

I have four original 87s and they all eject modern 2 3/4" plastic shells with no problem.  The problem with the Chicom guns in most cases is improperly shaped EXTRACTORS.  +1 on Lassiter.
