New Used Uberti Schofield
« on: May 04, 2014, 09:02:19 AM »
Good morning gentlemen,

I just got a new to me used uberti schofield and had a few questions. I have never done more than handle a few top breaks in shops over the years so my practical knowledge of them is nil. The gun in question looks to be in great shape. The lock is very secure. There is a slight amount of play from side to side in the barrel at the hinge, I've already starting looking for a screw driver to fit the very thin screw slot. The cylinder has a little end shake, but nothing I am too concerned with. My concern is the cylinder lock up; the cylinder indexes fine, but I can wiggle the cylinder in either direction a little while the hammer is down and while the hammer is cocked.

Is this normal for a schofield to have a little play in the cylinder? I wanted make sure it was okay before I touched off any rounds down range.

Thanks,

Patrick

Depends on your definition of "little."  It is virtually impossible on a wheel gun to have zero play in the bolt/cylinder fit.  If you are taking a couple of thousands of movement in either direction, great.  If you are talking a genuine, perceptible misalignment then you need to have it looked at.
