A few quotes worth remembering:
"Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide." John Adams, 2nd US President in a letter to John Taylor, April 15, 1814
"To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize." Voltaire
"Only virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters." Benjamin Franklin
I once read that no republic has ever lasted more than 200 years without betraying itself; perhaps the fulfilment of the John Adams quote.
The 2nd quote seems to describe the tyranny of political correctness in all things.
The 3rd quote describes the decline of empires and their increasingly powerful agencies, intruding into all aspects of life and controlling the people.
