Just what are "we" and "they" talking about here?

Is an AR-15 and assault rifle? I don’t think so. I think that they are semi-auto rifles that LOOK LIKE assault rifles. The M-16 is an assault rifle. The M-16 is selective fire and the AR-15 is not. Why is it that the media can go on and on about “military rifles that have no place in American homes” and generally lump them in with the “assault weapons”. Is the K-98 Mauser an assault rifle? I don’t think so, but it is military, so……..  Heck, for that matter a Brown Bess is a military rifle. Who is going to decide what is “military” and what is “assault weaponry”? Is a bayonet an assault weapon? Yes it is. Are we going to ban them too? Are we going to ban “high capacity magazines? Generally that is considered to be more than ten rounds. O.K. how much damage will ten rounds of 12 Ga. Loaded with 00 buck do? That’s 90 .30 caliber pellets leaving the barrel at about 1400 fps. Using speed loaders, you can reload 4 or five rounds into a semi-auto shotgun in about 2 seconds too. Are we going to eventually restrict all guns to single shot? My point is that legislators and media commentators now all want to appear like they are serious about stopping “gun violence”, but they don’t have a clue as to what they are talking about. They don’t know anything about guns. They don’t even have the correct nomenclature. The AR-15 does not use clips, it’s a magazine. Very few know the difference between semi-auto and selective fire weapons. Very few even know what the current laws allow and disallow. I heard a man on the T.V. tonight that calimed that it is legal for a person to walk around with a bazooka. That is true, but it is not legal to own or walk around the rocket that this weapon fires. They are explosive devices and are restricted by the ATF. The same is true of grenade launchers, RPG’s, Stinger Missiles and several other devices. If you are going to take a stand on something, at least know what it is that you are talking about!
