An interesting read;  Perhaps the Russians made films about their Eastern form of manifest destiny?

Looks like you have a clear shot at being the first to make such a movie, Rick.

Aw! If you want the "real" story about Alaska (rather than Ft. Ross), read Louis L'amour's "Sitka".  There is no mention of Princess Gagarina's having children. Just a great story about Jean Lebarge and Helena, and sailing and trapping along the Northwest coast!  ;)
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Rick,

I seem to remember a quasi-musical  about For Ross done during the if-we show-them-anything-but-SAA-Colts-it-won't-sell  1950s ...it was such a stinker that I should never have watched it ... if I remember correctly, a handsome officer (in Indian War era regalia) wins he had of a Russian princess that was turned away from court and sent to Fort Ross ...

It was so bad I think I fell asleep and missed the ending .... and I can't seem to find it now ....

TTFN,
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

Here's wiki;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Ross,_California

I looked up the international landclaim status on the West coast in the Early 19th Century.  In a Treaty with the US in 1824 The Russians gave up fur trade claims South of 54 40 N And had a similar deal with Britain in 1825. These treaties didn't bind Spanish rights and claims. The existence of Ft. Ross after that was a bit irregular, but didn't seem to bother the authorities in California.  From what I can figure, Ft Ross was a private commercial enterprise and had become a supplier of agricultural products that remained in demand for a time. By 1841 that role was no longer viable and the Fort was sold to Sutter. Some say that he never paid? Basically, the treaties were ignored or treated as irrelevant.

P.S;  Here is a partial answer to the original question.  Not a film, but a book;

Popular culture (Found in the wikipedia link just above.)

Fort Ross serves as the backdrop in the short story "Facts Relating to the Arrest of Dr. Kalugin," part of Kage Baker's series of science fiction stories concerning "The Company."

Perhaps you will get the opportunity if California continues to run deficits! :D

A Note concerning Ft Ross;

A friend of mine installed a reverse-osmosis water treating plant at Ft Ross ( I am told the water has naturfally occuring extremely high lead amounts) as well as a functional leechfield in the limited space that the Fort owns ....

So a caveat to the people thinking of owning Fort Ross ...
