CCI Blazer 200 gr. JHP on my Ruger New Vaquero.
« on: May 26, 2011, 06:19:20 PM »
Hi Pards, a few weeks ago I got my first pair of revolvers, Set of Ruger SASS New Vaqueros, of course in stainless steel. These guys are amazing, I've been shooting the regular Winchester Lead RNFP 250gr, not a problem, and also I found on a gun show these 200gr. that really have tamed recoil, more control over the shoots. Ran out of the 200gr ones, and the price on the winchester it's getting expensive. On the same gun shop they have these Blazer 200gr. , but I'm not sure if it's safe to use those on my New Vaqueros, some guys says it's ok, but just wanted to make sure, some people think Vaqueros and New Vaqueros are the same gun, and may be the loads for one gun it's safe, bit not for the other one.

Please let me know what you guys know or think, this can be a cheaper alternative for practice, then again when I start going to cowboy shooting, I'll switch to lead bullets  ;D

I have used Blazers in my Colt's and they shot ok. I don't remember killing anything with one but they have a good bullet shape. I wouldn't use'm much because the case is not readily reloadable. Reloading your own is likely the ultimate solution to your hunt for a practice load.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

Use the 200-45 Blazers in my Colt SAA Sheriff & Ruger NV Montado-No problems.
Tests on youtube have shown the round to be very effective especially for short barreled.
I do like the aluminum case as well as they drop from the chambers easier and there
seems to be no corrosion when left in the cylinders for a period of time. The only drawback
I find is they are not reloadable.......

I have shot about 25 through my Uberti Cattleman and the same through my older ASM both 45 Colt. I had no problems with them other than being aluminum cased one can't reload them. I put about 50 through my Rossi R92 also without any problems.
