Shipment from Buffalo Arms arrived
« on: March 11, 2011, 03:44:36 PM »
Received my RCBS Legacy dies, RCBS shellholder ($$) and Jamison cases for my 45-60 this morning and have spent the last couple of hours setting up. I'm glad I sprang for the RCBS sellholder as none of my 45-70 shellholders (RCBS and LEE autoprime) fit the rim of the Jamison brass. The 45-60 measures .612 in dia, with a rim thickness of .055. My 45-70 brass measures .600 in dia and .063 in thickness.

Anyway, I lubed the brass with Hornady One-Shot and sized 20 cases. Everything went very smooth. I noticed that the brass now has a faint bottleneck (like a 44-40). I think I read in one of Mike Venturino's books that this is correct. BTW, the brass is very good quality, consistent in length and with no smashed mouths.

Now my only "problem" is I have to use the good old press mounted primer attachment, as the cases won't fit my Lee autoprime. Oh well, more time spent reloading is always a good thing.

Now I just have to wait for the bullets (backordered) to arrive so's I can shoot the dang thing.

Wyatt, do you own the entire Lee box of Autoprime shell holders?  Mine has saved me more than once.

Matter of fact I do Will, but the largest one is for the 45-70 and these Jamison cases are just slightly too large. Actually, priming on the press wasn't so bad, it took me back to the good ole days when I first started reloading. I just don't like handling by hand for fear of contamination. This is not really an issue though, 'cause I wash my hands before and after handling them.

Solved the shellholder issue with the Lee auto-prime hand primer. I had an extra shellholder on hand and got out the good ol Dremel. I found a tiny round headed grinder bit that is just slightly larger in dia than the groove in the shellholder. After a few minutes grinding and now the Jamison brass fits the Auto-prime perfectly. No more handling the primers one by one.

I had to use the Dremel to open the throat of the Lee Autoprime to accept the body of the various cases I was using to form to .45-75.  I basically just removed the mold seam line there to make room for the case.
