disassembly and assembly of the Uberti 1873?
« on: July 23, 2011, 02:37:13 PM »
I got a new Uberti 1873 but the owner's manual only shows how to load and unload it.I would assume that there is more to cleaning and maintaining it then just running a patch down the muzzle end. I am not sure of what screws to loosen to get to the internal parts if need be.Is there a web link or manual that shows what and what not to do?
Good shootin,

You'd better clarify--rifle or revolver?  This has caused some confusing replies in the past.

Cowboys and Indians has a video\

Yep, best to get the video, and a good set of gunsmith screwdrivers/tips, i prefer the Magna-Tips. I suggest the 22 piece Super Set if you don't have any. While you're on the C&I web site order a SS mag spring and follower. The end plug on the mag tube was put on by a gorilla named Mongo, an impact driver comes in handy here. If you don't have the right tip (#360-3) for the mag plug don't try it, you'll mess it up. Good Luck :)

Check out the Uniquetek site for a 1873 magazine tube nut wrench for $14.95  If you are shooting smokeless then your rifle will not need a lot of internal cleaning. Make sure that you use some blue or green loctite on the screws by the trigger guard and the one side plate as it will fall out by itself.
