When You Wasn't Watchin Westerns
« on: May 21, 2010, 07:00:27 PM »

OK, If yer my age, when ya wern't watching westerns, did you watch 77 Sunset Strip? Remember Kookie and his T? How many of you can remember Kookies name. (not his real name, but his caracters name)

For extra points how many of you can remember the name of the guy that built that famous t?

Well, I always thought Franklin Mint was the best at detail, but Danbury Mint takes the prize on this one. Here is Kookies t in 1:24 scale, and it is all there. the spark plugs wires are a given. But how about the fuel lines, all the way back to the gas tank. The throttle linkage, the springs to the linkage, even the name on the intake manifold. Brake lines...yup It is in....credible.

Some guy made an exact copy of the T back east...

Oh, and for extra extra credit...can you name the colour of the paint on the body??

hope ya like the model, cuz I sure do!!!

I'm not sure but didnt Big Daddy Roth biuld that car. it looks like one of his Rat Fink cars.
I used to ear up Hot Rod magazine and CARtoos magazine.
duck tails and side burns was the order of the day.

77 Sunset strip was a favorite.
another of my favorites was Stoney Burke with Jack Lord playing a rodeo saddle bronc rider.
At the beginning of the show he would walk out into an arena with a saddle on his shoulder throw it on the ground step on it and spin his spur rowel. I thought he was slick.
then one year he played our rodeo  and I got to meet him  as my Dad ran the sound and lights at the rodeo arena.
I walked over and picked up his saddle and it was made of foam rubber. he saddle a real saddle was too heavy.
the guy was as phony as they come.f

Nope, wasn't Big Daddy Roth, just a bit to reserved for the RF..(altho the bloody skull shifter is close.

Actually it was built by Norm Grabownski. And as for the paint colour, it was 1956 Dodge Royal Lancer Blue, Metallic Car had a 331ci Caddilac engine. The flames and the pinstriping was done by Dean Jefferies. On the original car the skull shift knob was hand carved by Norm from wood.

I loved this car when I was a kid. It is really cool to have a model this detailed now in my old age!

good shootin
curley

PS, ya got Kookies full name right...So, now fer extry credit, how about the full name of Bob Denvers character in Dobie Gillis?

That woiuld be correct. Bob Denver was my first celeberty autygraph. He came to my highschool and did a Maynard bit, because our school was doing a play about Dobie Gillis.....was pretty cool....
My second autygraph was also at my high school, and it was Tim Morgan the folksinger (Levee, and The Cat Came Back..)also a cool guy.

Now that danbury is making such good models of really old stuff, when will there be a model of you and Old Top?

BTW, Dobey Gillis is my second (?) cousin.  Well, Dobie isn't, but Dwayne Hickman is.  My mom had two sisters who married Hickman brothers and Dwayne and Darryl are the sons of the third brother who didn't marry anyone in my family, so we're sorta related by marriage...or so the story goes.

Doesn't matter much, I never met any of them. Closer relation to Broderick Crawford, ten four.
