Josh,

By chance, would that knife be a hispanic Belduque?

The dropped tip and double sharpened edges, and pinkie stop at the hit end are all markers of that kind of knife ... although the earlier ones, like Bowies, had 10-12" blades ....

WWE,

I dont think this could be classified as a Belduque due to the shape of the blade.  This knife does however have many of the same features like you mentioned.

Figured there'd be no harm in making a dry run before starting on a custom order for a Belduque. Also wanted to try out working with bone and fileworking the bolster.

I'm nearing completion on this knife. Probably get her done tomorrrow so I'll get some pics when she's finished and you can have a look an see what ya think.

I was really shooting for just a genaral purpose knife that'd make a good companion to a pistol.   Kind of a Jack of all trades master of none blade.

Josh,

Well, If you were shooting for a good all around knife, I think you it the bullseye.

I think a dropped point blade, unless you are doing ALOT of skinning, to be the best compromise knife around ...

And it looks like the knife will feel good in the hand and have nice balance.

Josh, I like that one. It has a very period correct look and not over the top. Looks like it would be a real good user.

GB,
Thats exactly what i'm shootin fer.  A brand new handmade knife that looks to have a few years use already on'er.
I didn't get to picky about gettin every scratch out of her and left a few rough areas on purpose.  I'm also planning on gitin an antiqued finish on the brass bolster and pins.

Ridin the range, mendin fences, butcherin grub, and gittin kindlin fer a fire are hard on a blades fine finish ya know.

Ain't nuthin better than a well made knife with some character on'er.

Nice work...again.  Good working knife.

You have me looking all over for the kind of knife I would like.  Crazy Crow 4866-120-003 Classic Bowie Knife Kit comes very close.  A bit longer clip would probably do it, and cut about 2/3 of the top guard away.

(Hmmm!  For that price I may just take a shot at a kit until I can get something better.)

Ah, now look what you've done.  You got me thinkin' again, and that's always dangerous.   ::)

Forty,

I lost some of my pics awhile ago when the computer crashed but thought I'd post a link to an album with pics of kit knives I made in the past.  Ther is a bit of leatherwork in there too.  Dont be too harsh though they were my very first attempts.
