Springfield Slim's 305 grain Big Lube Bullet
« on: February 13, 2008, 04:07:54 PM »
Bought a batch of these bullets for my shooting pardner to use in his Cimarron 45-60 M'76.  His first test results are in and this looks like a winner.

He was shooting this bullet over 40.0 gr of Varget and was shooting clover leaf groups at 50 yards.  As soon as the local range dries out enough so that he can make to the 100 yard butts that will be the next test.

He and I both want to get one of these moulds so I hope that Slim's offer to ramrod the deal generates enough interest to make it a go.

It will be good to hear reports from others as to how this bullet works out for them.

That's the kind of response I got on the castboolit forum too, which is why I altered an existing mould to get the bullet. If you really want one I can tell you how I made mine.

I have also tried this 305 Big Lube bullet in my 45-60 Uberti 76.  It performed very well with both Swiss and Goex Express black powders.  You ain't gonna run out of lube with this puppy! :)

I don't have any big lube bullets to give you a response about. I have an old Lyman-Gould 330gr HP mold with three 1/16" wide grease grooves. I use this mold for 45-70 and 45-75. With either SPG or the Beeswax/Alox formula it still has lube in the grooves after going through deer. It will group into 3/4" at 50 yards.  Does your big lube bullets use up the lube?

Never retrieved any. I mostly shoot CAS type events and after they hit that steel plate ya can't tell anything. There should be plenty of lube for most anything you could shoot it in.
