Matte finish, underneath ?

On the Rodeo, is the texture of the steel, if one were to take the matte finish off,,,is the texture coarse ?,,,fairly smooth, polished to any degree ?

What I am trying to ask,,if one antiques a Rodeo, would it be necessary to polish the frame, grip rails and trigger guard and barrel,,,or,,would ones antique finish look fairly 'realistic' with the metal surfaces 'as is' from USFA ?

Would it still have the 'matte' coarsness after the matte finish is removed ?

I believe the finish is polished to some degree to receive the proper fit and finish with the flats and edges.  There was someone in here that antiqued a Rodeo.

 :)Get a medium cloth buffing wheel, chuck it in a variable drill and buff each for about 5 minutes.  This takes off the matt finish and leaves a very nice blued polished finish.  Be careful not to buff too hard or you will take the blueing off as well.  Leaves a nice looking pistol with minimal work.  I have two 7 and 1/2 inch rodeos and did this last year.  Really looks good.  Take care.   JD

It was fairly smooth underneath.  It wasn't pollished shiney but you could do that if you wanted.  When you take the finish off it isn't bumpy or pitted so if you want that look you would have to do that to the surface before antiquing.  But if you look at that posting that Longshot Logan did that is about what they look like under the finish.

Johnny, I just antiqued a Model P..and I gotta say,, I'm more than pleased with the outcome.

Two different 'cold blues', plumb brown and some  personal imagination, and now it looks identical to some Hi-Res images I have of some 1st gen. Colts...there are about 6 different blending, fading, harmonizin' , subtle shades of 'age' on the Model P now.

..the most difficult part was getting the nerve to take off the factory blue  ! LOL  But,,a 1000 percent improvement was worth it.

  Marshall, the top picture is of the 2 rodeos and the bottom picture has my USFA NCOWS with CCH frame above the rodeos.  The NCOWS pistol has the black powder frame.   JD
