You may want to look for a copy of 'Confederate Handguns' - by Albaugh, Benet and Simmons.
It goes into some depth on Thomas Wrenn Cofer and his work.
Apparently, there were only seven of his revolvers known at the time of initial publication in 1963.
They more or less resemble a brass-framed Whitney or Remington, with an octagonal barrel and feature a spur (or sheath) trigger.
All were in .36.
The book does give the names of a number of his relatives - living in the Tidewater area.
