A Brace of Cavalries

I picked up the 7th Cavalry Cimarron today that I got from Sgt. Drydock (thank you again, sir!), so now I have a brace.  I had been pairing my Cavalry with a Cimarron antique finish pre-war .45, but this is mo' betta'  ;D

I bought the first  gun 5 1/2 years ago and have 657 rounds through it, all in CAS matches, so it's still like new (I rotate through a lot of guns in matches, but mostly shoot conversions). A tiny bit of blue wear at the usual places, left side of muzzle, end of ejector housing, and backstrap. The new gun was made in 2023 and Sgt. Drydock says he only shot 20 rounds through it (can't tell) Both are Company I, with s/n about 2900 apart.  I have always loved charcoal blue and don't know if you could come up with a prettier set of Colt repros in standard authentic form out of the box.  They have all the proper military markings.  The s/n on the frame might be laser marked, not sure, but I think all the other markings and the grip cartouches are stamped. The action is just fine, as usual for out of the box Model P's, but I will lighten the main spring to match the first gun, and I will get around to shortening the base pins at some point.

More.

The gunleather was made by my friend Drew of Lone Star Leather.  He was the keyboard player in my band in the early 80's and is the guy who got me started in CAS in the late 90's.

This was an orphan in my safe that more or less showed up by accident.  Glad to see it in a proper loving home.

Nice! I kinda-sorta put together a brace of them. Well, one is a 7th, the other is another factory aged run of the mill Uberti.

Thankee  :) .  When I started in '99 I used a gun-show Mexican buscadero rig that was some ugly.  Then a fantastic bargain on a used Canadian Mernickle rig for $75  :o  But I wanted a rig for longer barrels so I asked Drew to make me one. He wore a belt like the above one and I loved it so I said, make it like that!  :)  The moose antler / ivory / lapis buckle (a third eye) was one a sister (RIP) gave me for xmas many years ago.

Not yet! Every now and then I get on Gunbroker and look for the factory aged guns to see what I can find.

 >:(  Oh No Mr. Bill  :(

VTI Gunparts has run out of stock on Single Groove Uberti Base Pins (so I got two groove to cut down) and He is out of the Bolt Kits for the 1866/Henry (so I got a '73 kit to adapt).  Good thing I have a bunch of "take off" parts still Laying around.  That Pietta Base Pin really REALLY SUX.

Abilene

Coffinmaker, I haven't yet cut down the Uberti two-groove base pin I put in one of my Piettas, but I noticed that when pushed all the way in, it just barely impedes the full hammer fall. I think it might even set off some primers (I didn't try). Meaning it only needs a smidge taken off the rear, not as much as for an Uberti pistola.

      Greetings!

That fire-blue is lovely! We had a Cimarron (?) "7th Cav" come in, with the big screw pin retainer in standard blue. I'm staring at it really hard...

All new BP-framed guns come from Italy with the knurled screw in place.  I believe it has something to do with an import requirement requiring a safety that can be activated without additional tools.  That is why Opentops and conversions used to have a tiny "screwdriver" in the box so you could fold the safety wedge forward in the hammer.  Although I haven't seen one of those little tools in ages.  Anyways, the proper flush mount screw will be in a little baggie in the cutout on the lower left side of the box (and probably a stupid red safety lock that I think gets put in all boxes because some states require it).

Cimarron sells Cavalry models from both Uberti and Pietta, though only the Uberti makes the charcoal blue.

Drydock

If it's not in the box, call Cimarron and they'll send you one no charge.

And I keep one of those tiny tools on my key ring. Comes in handy.
