Schofield conversion??

If a .44 Russian cylinder were available (haven't checked inventory yet) what is the likely hood that the timing would not change doing this swap? Another concerns with doing this?

Even if the .44-40 Schofield had the proper bore for that cartridge, dimensions wouldn't be an issue. Being a couple thousandths undersized won't hurt a thing.

Thanks for the reply, but I was asking about the timing of the cylinder advance and lockup. If the ratchet star on all Uberti Schofield and Russian cylinders are cut to the same spec and if tolerances are kept close. If the pawl may need to be tweaked if the cylinder were changed as we are discussing.
The bore on all Uberti .44's are .429"/.430" so that is no concern.

I have no direct experience with doing something like this to a Uberti Schofield, but generally interchangeable cylinders will require some tweeking of th ratchet stars, rather than the hand. I've had this done on two Ruger OM Vaqueros to get interchangeable cylinders between .44-40 and .44 Mangle-em. OTOH, I once bought a modern-made cylinder for an original Colt's Frontier Six Shooter (.44-40) by mail order, to replace the original (which had very tight throats I didn't want to mess with...for originallity sake).  I figured I'd have to have the new one fitted to the gun. Just for the heck of it, I dropped the new cylinder into the gun, and it locked up like a bank vault without having to have any fitting at all!    So you never know... it just depends on which way the tolerances fall.

Trailrider, thanks for the reply. Now I just need to decide if it would be worth the extra expense of purchasing a Schofield in .44-40 and then buying a .44 Russian cylinder and installing it or going with the .45 Schofield version since I do load .45 Schofield for my '58 NMA conversions.

I recently purchased a Uberti Schofield with 3 1/2" barrel chambered for .44 S&W Russian. It came by way of Taylor's to my gun dealer Bryan Buck at 3B Shooting Supply. Nice as it is, why Uberti didn't chamber it for .45 S&W Schofield is beyond me. But, then my Ubert,i made for Beretta, No. 3 New Model is chambered for .45 Colt and should be .44 S&W Russian to be period correct. Go figure!
