What Shotgun, USPSA 3-Gun type games UPDATED CHOICES
« on: December 13, 2009, 10:47:51 PM »
I have been thinking about doing some modern 3 gun.  I have been looking at a few shotguns.  I really like the Benelli M-2 with the comfort tech stock.  I like the 2 better than the 4.  I also really like the Remington 1100 Tac-4.  Either way, I think a semi auto, and a 20" barrel, with choke tubes.

I was thinking about my 97, but know that would probably not really be the best choice.

I would shoot limited.

Any thoughts on the shotguns?

Thanks,

WGH

Howdy! I am adding the FN SLP Mark ! into the mix.  I honestly think this is the best of the three.  Wolfbane sure likes this one.

Gene,

I've helped out at a few Multi-Gun events, and both of the semi-auto shotguns you named are well-represented.  I've never handled or fired a Benelli, but I know 870's and 1100's inside out.  You could go further, look harder, and still not find anything better than a good-ol' Remington 1100.  The other thing is that aftermarket tactical accessories for the 1100 are plentiful and relatively inexpensive.  That means, if your budget is tight, you can start with a used "regular" 1100 and build it up as funds become available.

Wishing the Season's Best for you and yours,

I've sure thought about that, I would hate to beat it up too much.

It is a Coyote Cap '97, done by Miss Kitty.  It is cut down to 18.5" and threaded for choke tubes.  I've won State Cowboy trap with it, won a few friendly wadgers, and a match or two using that shotgun.  It is the only cowboy gun that I never replaced.

I've been through a few sets of pistols, multiple rifles, holsters, ammo belts, but that shotgun is the only one I've ever competed with.  I love that shotgun.

Yea, it would be fun.

I have added the FN SLP Mark 1 to the mix.  The more I look at it, the more I like it.

WolfBane did a short video about it, and it sounds like he really likes it.

Depends on what loads you're shooting.  The newer heavier loads, and buckshot, will beat an original '97 to pieces.  And some 3-gun competitions (X3 Multi-Gun, for example) have stages requiring buckshot, et al.
