Nitro converted cylinders
« on: November 28, 2013, 06:46:47 AM »
Just in case some of you don't know, us Brits have been allowed to own nitro converted cylinders for our B/P revolvers. :o

These are similar to Richards cartridge version but instead of being drilled through for shells, the nipple end takes shotgun primers.

Anyway, a few comps ago, my pal Mule was flexing his jaw muscles and giving me some ear ache. ::)

As a consequence, I managed to miss the powder from one cylinder, (Oh no, I hear you say!) :-[

On the line, bang-ting (five times),,,phut-ting (fives times),,,what??? ???

The upshot was that you can safely practice in your garage using only shotgun primer power!

Does my old Scottish heart(and wallet) proud! ;D

Click on the link and it should show my Remmies with the offending articles!

Slightly blurred unfortunately but it should give you the basic idea.

Loaded off gun with separate press.

(And no,,they ain't .22cal, they are .454 ball. My ROA's have the same conversions.)

Angel Eyes,  You should chrony those Phfft loads and assess their strength.  There used to be a gunsmith here in SW Missouri who developed  .31 and .36 cal. rifles to use .22 and .25 cal blanks as propellant and they worked superbly sending respective balls downrange at 1200 fps.  When he tried to get this design past the ATF, they rejected it and said it was a self-contained ignition system therefore, NOT LEGAL by their standards.  Bureaucarats...they should all be hung. From one scot to another.
