Anybody ever "Roosevelt" his '76?

T.R. ordered his Deluxe model with half-octagon, half-round barrel, finely checkered pistol grip stock with shotgun butt, half-magazine and a patooty-load of engraving and a gold stock inlay. I believe simply having the magazine converted to half magazine would go far toward recreating the balance and feel of his much-admired '76. Of course, his was in .45-75.
Just throwing this out there in case some of the dead rise from their graves in this forum ...

You are correct that the balance is better. I have an original with a half magazine but with a full octagon barrel and a rifle but stock.
Lyman tang rear sight and Lyman #4 front. I like it a lot. I think it would be a good gun to reproduce but I'm not in charge.

John, good to hear this. I wonder what a smith would charge to shorten the mag and source and fit a proper forend cap. Just daydreaming as I don't even have the 76 yet.
Got an inch and a half of rain up here in Sweetwater night before last. Sorry to hear y'all are still dry down that way.

Back in the good ol days when Cimarron still offered custom services, I remember them showing a picture of a custom TR '76. Pretty awesome.
