  Yep, I knew of your exploits with the Piettas and I've done a few Uberti's with different length barrels ( 19th century  Pistol Packs ya know). Anyway. I've not had different caliber '72's  here at the same time to get that "I otta try that" ding in my head. In fact I've got a pair in 45C visiting but no others.

From Two Flints...."Very good chance your Spencer Carbine, serial # 50950, was issued to Company E, 7th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry on November 12, 1865." Grateful for the info, and this forum.  I don't have it in hands yet, but will post photos when I do. 

Meantime, while I'm here and we're talking Spencers.... a friend got me this Spencer Bullet (not put together) from Sailors Creek.  I can't help but conjure up such images of where and what regiment/division this bullet was from?  Sheridan, Custer, Merritt....Was it dropped in action, trying to reload that magazine...?  Too cool!

MTM Look on the back of the cylinder. Mine has the year, catalog number, and .44 Colt stamped on it. For some reason they’re marked different than the .45s. .44 Americans are also in a different serial number range than the rest of the break tops for some reason.

 ;D  One really nice thing about Starline 44-40 brass??  It makes really superb 45 Colt cartridges that seal rifle chambers really really well.

I would be some remiss were I knot to enquire - You have measured the chambers in the Hammered Stevens and the Antique Belgian Hammered Double??  :P I would be inclined to suspect both have Two and a Half inch chambers which do not necessarily act harmoniously with more common Two and Three Quarter ammunition.  :o In which case I would suspect also you are shootin Two and a Half Inch Roll Crimp fodder??  I hope  8)

Ah Ha!!  NONE OF THE ABOVE.  I have encountered the exact same problem.  I have and use a pair of flat Wire Stripping pliers.  Really thin by comparison, have serrations in the jaws and slip in between pieces of leather really well.  give 'em a try.

Might want to get a better pair - maybe the ones made by 'Sargent', with the wire-cutter - they come in handy.
