HPR cartridges ?

have any of you shot this ammo brand?

specifically their 45 Colt 250 gr. TMJ (total metal jacket) cartridges.

their website doesn't show a picture of the round itself.

i'm thinking that it would be a truncated cone (flat point) bullet safe to shoot in a Henry 1860.

can anyone verify?

I just did a Google Image search on: HPR 45 Colt 250 gr. TMJ

and one of the pictures shows that box of ammo with a couple of cartridges lying in front of it.  They do have a flat point.

Major2 is dropping a subtle hint. If you have money to spend but want more bangs for the buck get reloading, and buy cast bullets in bulk until you get casting. Meanwhile, save every fired case that comes your way. Don't be shy about scavanging at your range, and even dumpster diving for neglected and disparaged brass.

   I second Sir Charles' Motion! Save your brass and boxes. If you have any interest in reloading,
you can get in without breaking the bank. I can reload for about $5.00 a box ( .44WCF, .45C, etc. )
by casting my own bullets. For me, it's not just a means to save A LOT of cash ( .44WCF in my
neighborhood is $40-$50/box ), I actually get a big kick out of it! I also like the idea of being in
charge of my own ammo supply.

I was looking at this cartridge as it was one of the few offerings with a plated bullet.
interesting to see they use Starline brass which is my go to brass for reloading.

I already hand load for this caliber but I only use plated or jacketed bullets ( i'll probably catch hell for this from the purists  ).

I've got Nosler 250 gr. JHP and X-treme 255 gr. plated, cannelured bullets on hand.

some experimenting with powder charges and some chronograph time will find the sweet spot for the 1860.

How many rounds do you shoot out of the Henry a year, would you reckon?

I just got the 1860 a few weeks ago and it's still unfired.

been busy with other projects and dealing with bad weather (just snowed here on the 1st).

I've got the first batch of ammo made up and hopefully will get out this week.

anticipated round count for the year? - coupla thousand.

Cast bullets are like that custom car that needs "one more piece".  In my limited experience, unless one is going to do a lot of shooting, and has a lot of time, molding is more expensive than buying the bullets.

Personally      I consider 85.5 cents per round to be legalized theft.  WOW that's expensive.  Unless for hunting, I don't have much use for jacketed bullets.  I don't hunt anymore and my personal home defense is a 12Ga so jacketed or plated bullets are ... Meh

PLUS ONE for Matt45.  A .. I'm lazy.  B .. The Saw Bones tell me not to stand over a lead pot anymore.  So I don't.  C .. See "A."  I find it soooo much easier to order a couple thousand cast bullets and have them delivered to my door.

I amortized the cost of my presses years ago so the raw cost of my ammunition is well under $5.00 a box for cartridges.  I'm down to between 5 and 7 thousand rounds a year now.  I one were to multiply the cost of that metal plated stuff by 5 thousand rounds, you'd choke.  Apoplexy.  CPR!!!!  Get yourself into reloading!!

Yep, reloading is the way to go.  I order 200 grain RNFP from Stateline bullet, add 45 Schofield cases, and CCI primers and I am probably about $6.00/50.  I get 1,000 rounds from one pound of $30 powder, cast run about $80/1,000, and Primers  $13/1,000 last time I bought.  $123.00/1,000 or $6.15 a box of 50.  If you buy in bigger quantities you can lop off about a buck a box.
