1873 Cleaned, now stiff action ???
« on: April 17, 2011, 09:43:14 PM »
Just took my '73 apart to clean it.

Put it back together, now the action super stiff.

 ???

Everything works real smooth, until I insert the middle pin into the toggles, then it get super stiff about halfway through cycling it.

When I take that middle pin out, I and work the lever and carrier real easy.  Same thing with the bolt and firing pin, toggles also work real smooth.

I can't figure it.

This ever happen to anybody else??
God forgives, I don't........

The very first gun I ever bought was a surplus Carcano. I was very new to guns. To clean off all the grit, grime and grease I field stripped the gun and washed the barreled action action in gasoline. When assembled everything frozen up. I figured it out after a bit but was surprised that I needed to have oil on a gun for it to work.  :o
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.
