Fill to the base of the bullet with no more than light compression, and it will deliver consistant velocity and minimal, nom cumulative fouling. Velocity will be close to the standard spec for the caliber. Or a .38 spl 150 grainer will be around 800 fps. Standard primers and moderate crimp. Clean with plain water and oil as normal. Cases dropped in plain water will be clean and ready to load after drying. You will need to use bp lubed bullets for best results.

« Last post by Griff on Today at 08:16:39 PM »I use an RCBS mold, 45-225-CAV and lube with SPG. It happens to carry just about the right amount of lube in both 24-¼" rifles. The one on the left is after hitting it with a 2-½ lb hammer.

« Last post by Griff on Today at 04:05:37 PM »All these newbies and new fangled ideas... I've been shooting the same 1873 Uberti 24-¼" rifle in 45 Colt since 1987. BP is not a disadvantage. I've sanded down the sides of the carrier to give me at least .015-.020" clearance on both sides and can shoot a 3 day match (12 stages) without interruption. I load ~25 grains of Goex "Cartridge" or 2F behind a 225 grain bullet of wheel weights from an RCBS 45-225-CAS mold (truncated cone)... Neither do I anneal cases, unless I'm shooting APP, it seems to foul a little bit more than real BP... but I haven't used enough to say that with the utmost confidence. As I've used APP mostly in C45S cases.

Hanging it all out, based on the Roll Marks and SN, I'm calling it a US Parts gun. Either way, it's and excellent example. Cylinder shows signs of the action having been cycled several times at least. Price isn't out of line with current trends for USFA offerings.

Because of a fluke we had to go to Costco on Wednesday, not the day to go. Went early afternoon, first try no old people carts, so went to the Walmart nearby, came back and the same, went to lunch, place we chose was not real busy but most were, mostly old people though for what there were, half full and it's pushing 3pm. Costco was the same, no carts, Took the Walmart plunder back home, had coffee and headed back, no carts, decided to sit on ledge and wait, a friend came in with one, talked a bit, second one did not come so I got a push cart. Mostly made it, decided to test out a fancy easy chair, was nice, but way to expensive and Rita finished up and we paid, loaded and left.
