Pedersoli Sharps
« on: January 13, 2009, 06:01:34 PM »
I have a Pedersoli sharps in 45-70, 1:18 twist rate.  Does anyone know if that is Left or Right hand twist?
I am going to start paper patching bullets and would like to know which way to wrap the bullet.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm sure it's right hand, but just open the breech block and have a look. ;)

Mine has a 22 adapter in it so I'm not positive but it seems to me that it rotated right when I put the insert in so I guess that makes it a right hand twist ???

Now that explains it, I'll try to look in mine tonight and let you know.  The vast majority of rifles have right hand twists.

I believe the left-hand twist rifles are reserved for shooting south of the equator, in order to counteract the Coriolis Effect

It really doesn't matter a hole bunch which way you wrap the bullet.

I checked mine this morning, it is a RH twist like I thought.

As far as what I've seen in LH twist was one of those inproved 98 Mausers made by Hukvarna. (sp)  Don't know why.
