OK   I just couldnt stand it anymore.   Took both of them out and fired them with my loads.   200 gr rnfp from a lyman mold, lyman alox   5.5 grains tite group.     Shot well.   One right on point of aim   point of impact.   the other a tad high and to the left.   I'll lighten the load, it did seam a tad heavy.

But you know something,,,,,   I really like the 44-40 cartridge.  I know lots of folks have had problems with loading them, but it works well with me.   The thing I was impressed about it, there was no blowby, the empties came out as clean as they went in, well on the outside, and the pistols cleaned up well.

Dang, now I got to get me a rifle in 44-40...............

Well done Pappy, I have just converted over to the 44/40 for all of my cowboy guns. I have been campaigning an early built Uberti 1866, but just recently upgraded to a slicked up 1873 (actually slicked up a bit too much, won't wrk, it is back at the smiths as we speak) and a pair of slicked up Piettas. They look just like your Colts, but i will ultimately have to get the real thing. I have a Colt 1911 in 38 Super and an olddd Police Positive in 38S&W. I need a pair of 44WCFs in 4 5/8" and a 45Colt in 7 1/2" just because I used to be in the Cavalry (Light Horse, Aussie version). There's something special about that prancing horse.
All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!

Is there a Cowboy Shooters Anonymous?
A few post back I mentioned I needed a rifle in 44-40

Found one.   Uberti 73 carbine with 20" barrel
Tis used and has some engraving on the name of a previous owner, a few wear spots.  And had to have some work done on the extractor.  Barrel is in good shape and it functions.........
I traded in a blackhawk in 41 and a brisley in 357 for it.
It shoots well.

I've ordered some cosmetic replacement parts for it from Taylors..............

Man I got it baaaaad
