Count me in.
It took awhile but I finally got my Uberti 76 to shoot well, even if it's only with smokeless.
Black powder loads are next.

Got ya on the list, Cat.  :)

Have you tried the BP loads, but just have not found the right combination?  What smokeless powder at you using?

Grizz...
I had a lot of trouble at first with accuracy of the .45-60 in the 76.  Turned out the crown was bad & sent it back to Taylor's.  They didn't fix it properly so I had to send it to John King in Kila MT.  He pulled the barrel & crowned it properly.  This is what Taylor's should have done.  I could see that the crown hadn't been corrected when they returned it.
Now, at 75 yds., I can get 1 inch groups using 24 grain of Accurate 5744 & the RCBS 45-300GC bullet sized .001 over groove dia.

Now that I know the rifle will shoot I'll start trying blackpowder as soon as I get a chance.

Cheers,

Cat

Yep.  Count me in too.   Here is my baby in 45-60 Uberti made from Taylors.  I have lots of factory ammo from TenX.

It loads and shoots like a dream.   Regards.  Deadeye.

Howdy Pards ....

To add a little "graphic content" to the thread, as new 76'ers report in and pending final establishment of our new home, here is a wee pic I put together while playing around on the computer yesterday ....

Hey Grizzly...  man, a fella gets a new rifle at BT and goes crazy startin' his own Society!  I think it's great.   ;D  Made me start looking around for one.  And as chance happens, I found a Chaparral 1876 in 40-60.  What's a good price, is this a good choice over the other makers and is this caliber too dinky?

Happy trails...

Howdy, Chick.  Good to hear from ya!  Yep, got that new Uberti 76 at BT and got all plum exicipated! :D  Actually, I have been fascinated with the model for many years.  I have a couple of originals that I have shot off and on.  These new ones should allow us to explore the potential of the caliber family as well as the design - without having to put added wear and tear on the old ones.

As for the 40-60, Mike V and some others seem to hold a low opinion of the caliber.  Light caliber in one of the heaviest rifles kind of thing.  I have had no experience with it, but figure it should make a fine deer hunting round, as well as a good mid range caliber.  Given the weight of the rifle, I suspect it will be a super combination to shoot!

As for price, I saw that Pecos Clyde was selling his Chap 40-60 for $700, which seems like a steal to me.  Most I have seen have been along the order of $1000+

Since Rattlesnake Jack is putting up some lever porn, here is one of my originals.  45-75 short rifle with shotgun butt, "as finished for the English trade."  British  proofed.

Post some pics of your new 76 for us! :)

Howdy,Tommy T.  I also have the Cimmie version in 45-60.  Pretty nice rifle, and very smooth right out of the box.  Still working on loads for it, but it show excellent potential.  Here is a pic of mine.  Note that it has the 22 inch barrel. :)

Very nice lookin' rifles, Griz!   But I gotta ask .... is that a back yard ..... or a fortress?   ;)

Don't you have one of those in .44-40 as well?
Actually, I had a "lookalike" made up on an original Model 1873 action, chambered in .45 Colt (which is what I shoot in all my other main match rifles and single action revolvers.)   Here it is:

And here's my new Model '76 on the same backdrop:

Detail from the "backdrop" -

By the way, if anyone is interested in acquiring one of these reprinted maps (only available folded, unfortunately) to go with their new NWMP carbine, they can be acquired from the RCMP Museum Gift Shop, for the princely sum of Cdn$2.00!  (The postage will likely be more than that, but I suppose you can browse through their stuff for other neat items ....   ::)

I'm serioulsy contekplating getting their boxed set of four cap badges (NWMP, RNWMP, RCMP-King's Crown, and RCMP-Queen's Crown) ... which might just make a nice display with the rifle  -

Har! ;D   My neighbors sometimes refer to it as "the Alamo." :D  We ain't that far from Texas!

By the way, that 1873 carbine/short musket is outstanding!  Where did you get the components for that conversion?

Howdy, I didn't realize the 76's were chambered for 50-95 until a friend of mine pulled one off the shelf at his "Gun Shop" in St. Bonifacius, MN.  He said it is the first one shipped to MN.  I believe it was a Cimmeron.  The wood is really choice. He commented,  on the ammo for this rifle  "you might as well buy the loaded stuff, its about the same price as the brass alone".  I can see why a person would like to have one  of these Winchester clones, right nice piece of history that still makes sense, and a pleasure to own.   Hutch

Griz,
I like your 22" bbl a lot, are you pleased with the bbl length now that you've shot it a bunch ? I have the standard 28" bbl length- GREAT shooting results but I have flirted with the idea of lopping off 2" to make it a little handier. It just shoots so well I'm afraid to mess with it.
