« on: December 09, 2008, 08:29:53 AM »
I am interested in buying a Colt SAA factory Nickle and Factory Ivorys in a Presentation Box.  Is 2000 a fair price?  It is said to be Third Generation w/ Black Powder Frame Serial # SA68103

Please respond ASAP

Thanks  1Y ;D

unfired, but turned........That part doesn't bother me since I am going to shoot it.  I am curious as to the Black powder frame.  Did the offer these on third gen guns? Also curious if the price sounds about right.  I have purchased guns from this person before and got a fair deal.

Just for rough numbers a new blue Colt is aournd $1300.00.  Nickle costs around $200.00 more.  Ivories have gone up in price since it is getting harder and harder to get.  The price depends a lot on whether they are one piece or two piece ivories.  The one piece cost more.  Haven't bought any for a while, but I think they are going from around $500.00 for the two piece to $7 or 800.00 for the one piece.  Sounds like the seller is asking full price for a used gun.

They tell me the gun books at 2400.00 can anyone verify this for me?  Does the presentation case add any extra collector value?

Looks like Pettifogger gave you a pretty good answer to your question.  The gun even with the presentation box is used and the seller is asking full or near full price.   Now it is up to you to decide.  You might consider contacting Sixgun Shorty for more information as he sells Colts and might be able to get you a 3rd generation NEW for around the same price that pard is asking used.

Pettifogger gave sound advice IMO. Personally, I would haggle & if he won't budge I'd price a new one with what you want. Usually (not always!!) people selling used Colts either got it for a song and will deal or else they overpaid and are trying to bail. Deadeye Don is spot on about Sixgun Shorty as he is a straight up fella and very affable to boot.

There is a wood case 7 1/2 " NIB Blued, one piece walnut, in 44 Spcl, for $1300 at a Gun Shop near here.
And I'm sorry to say, right next to it in the showcase, a NIB nickeled 7 1/2  also in 44 Spcl. ...
The SORRIEST example of a Colt product...
Colt should be ashamed :-[ ...the OEM one piece grip stands almost 1/8 (no typo) 1/8 " proud of the frame at the wineglass angle.
It has a 1/2" scratch the was just nickeled over at the factory right side of the frame above the triggerguard  ::)
Lastly, it has rather rough action, how do I know ? well I tried it.. why not ?  it had (remember it's NIB) a cylinder ring anyway.
Quality Control at Hartford was out the lunch on this one, while the rank'n'file shucked this one out
No case, but you get the cardboard box & papers ...price $1200 ... I passed !

when planets align...do the deal !
