Taylor's New Model No.3?
« on: August 09, 2014, 09:53:56 AM »
Has anyone seen one of these in the wild lately? I've been pining for one since they debuted, but they don't seem to exist except on a few youtube videos from a couple years back. No one in North Carolina seems to know anything other than that they'll take my money and let me know if and when they'll get them in stock.

Thanks,

Patrick

There were a couple on Gun Broker not too long ago.
They got re-listed a few times.
I was really tempted; but really like my pair of converted Russian models.
Maybe the sellers still have them
Good Luck!

Schofields arrive from Italy on a regular basis, but most already have orders.  Cimarron has one 44-40 in stock at the moment.  Guns like that are generally not found on the shelf; you need to put one on backorder.  Any dealer can put a gun on backorder at Cimarron with no obligation, so no money up front.  That's what you need to do.  You may be able to put one on backorder at Taylor's as well.  If a dealer wants any money for this, go to another dealer.

I had my #3 Frontiers on back order at Taylors for what seemed like forever.
They finally told me that they did not know when they would come in and offered to sell me a pair of Russians
I took the Russians and then had them re-shaped to be more like the Frontiers

I received a #3 from Taylor's about a month ago. I had it on order for over a year. I haven't had time to test it yet, but it seems to be a very nice piece.

I just received my holster from Reddog Leather, Paul did a fantastic job on it!  I took it to the range this weekend, other than shooting high, it did great.

Just so you know, the originals shot high too. Look how low the front sight is on my New Model Number Three that shipped in 1882. It shoots consistently high at Cowboy distances, I have to remember to hold low on the targets or it will shoot right over them. As a matter of fact, at the New England Regional this year there were some pistol targets set pretty far out. This was for the second pistol and we could either walk up closer or save time by staying back pretty far. I decided to show off and shoot from way back. I couldn't hit anything because I forgot to hold low. All my shots were going over the targets and hitting the berm. Everybody thought it was pretty funny. I just felt dumb.

That’s bad business! How long do you think I’d stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he’d pay me that much to stop robbing him, I’d stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Driftwood,
I see that the rear sight on your beautiful original is different than the Uberti,  the Uberti has a raised leaf.  Is that a change Uberti added?

If you look closely at mine , it has the same sight nubbin as the original

that not the leaf in the latch on your's Tornado

Both were correct, the target model had the leaf in the latch

Uberti has both designs I guess

The Uberti New Model #3 is basically a re shaped version of their #3 Model 3.
They re shaped the grip area and shortened the extractor rod housing to be more like the New Model. They do very little else to make their version of the New Model #3 more correct.

There is a Target Model within the original S&W New Model #3 that uses an adjustable rear sight blade mounted into the barrel latch. These also come with a target front sight.
I hope this helps.

Howdy!
Picked up a S&W new model #3 by Uberti from Taylor's at EoT in June; nickel plated, 6 1/2 inch barrel in 45 colt. The clerk told they were lucky to get this one.   I thought it over and came back the next day and bought it; I suspect the price and the fact that it isn't a 'speed' gun kept the typical SASS crowd away. Lucky for me!
Found a decent tooled leather mexican single loop holster at a bargin price for it on a clearance table at Kirkpatrick's booth.
Yep, it shoots high with the itty-bitty fixed sights.  Interestingly, Uberti also supplied set of the rear target sights as well, incase one wanted to change them out. Haven't tried them out yet.

Has anyone put an Ubert NM #3 side by side with a Beretta Laramie?

Inquiring minds want to know:  are they the same gun produced with the same tooling?

I believe it is the same frame, Uberti made them for Beretta

Difference at least with mine , is the leaf sight and the Gloss finish & medallion ( Beretta emblem Vs the Uberti U ) on the grips.

No hammer block safety
Uberti uses a hammer flat spring.... I think the Beretta had a coil  ?

Poncho,

Good question!
I know the Uberti but don't recall having ever seen the Beretta. I would think they are pretty much one and the same?
Can someone post photos of the Beretta? I can tell from good photos.
