The only difference between a Pocket Police and a Pocket Navy is the barrel and cylinder, the Police barrel shaped like a 60 and 61 Colt, and the Navy shaped like a 51 Colt.  The Navy's cylinder is shaped like a 60 Army, the Police cylinder is semi-fluted.

The frame, other than the step cut for the rebated cylinder is identical to the 31 Cal Pocket and Wells Fargo and Baby Dragoon.. All have interchangable gripframes.

And what a grip frame it is!

I have a '49 Pocket that is a ball to shoot. At pocket pistol ranges it is deadly accurate. That is why I have been casting around for a Police model myself. I was handling one in a local gun store this week and although the  little .36 is breath takingly beautiful I was disappointed with the overall quality. The grips were larger than the grip frame and two of the chambers would not lock up. Somehow the cylinder spun right past the bolt stop notch.

I will keep looking, or maybe just call Taylor since most of the advice I have received here indicates that they do the right thing.

Yes it was an Uberti 5 1/2", 1862 Police, 5 shot cylinder. As far as I know Uberti is the only manufacturer building this model. Pietta makes something called a Metropolitan Police but it is a 6 shot Navy revolver with a sawed off barrel, I am told.
