Gentlemen;
I am reprinting here the report I received from Allen Ashton:
Bat(2919) put on our first GAF match at CRC(Colorado Rifle Club). He did a great job writing the scenarios. He set them up as a 3 gun event, for our SASS and Professionals (formerly Wild Bunch) shooters. The GAF shooters simply omitted the shotgun targets. We had a nice turnout for GAF. One of the guys on our posse brought a 73 Springfield and shot black powder single shot. That was a hoot. His times were a bit slow, but he did a fine job banging away with his smokepole! We had three posses. I can check with Steve Fowler to see how many actual GAF entries we had.
On our posse, some of the cowboy and professionals shooters were making comments on how much fun the GAF looked like. Nice to hear comments like that!
On a personal note, my son (Alex) came out and shot with us. He had shot CAS before, but it must have been ten years since his last match. He brought his son (Keegan, 11 years) along, his first time watching a cowboy match! Keegan is 11, and he had a grand time. Alex spent time with him, showing him how a match went. It was fun for me to watch; sort of a rerun from 30 years ago! Although it had been a long time since my son shot, he didn't loose a step. Shot a 6 stage clean match. With very respectable times at that.
We are having a match on Aug 28th, and will have GAF stages included. It will be interesting to see how the attendance goes. Hopefully we can work up to the point where we have a GAF only match sometime in the future.
Regards
Al Ashton
