I'm not sure I want to know how much those rifles cost.  But I'd sure love to have any one of them.

As one who builds/repairs competition guns, as a question to you all, did you notice the depth of the ladle (loading gate) on that original '66??
The ENTIRE front edge of the loading gate serves as the cartridge stop.  Not some stupid little bent tab that is guaranteed to break.  I would like to know WHY, WHY DAMMIT, Uberti can't stamp a loading gate like that and eliminate the only week spot in their '66???

It (the loading gate) wouldn't cost a nickel more to make.  and the die for stamping machine wouldn't be that much expense either!!

There.  I feel better now and I'm back on my medication ...........

Coffinmaker,

Uberti has already made its investment in the '66.  I doubt they want to invest any more.  That doesn't mean I agree with what they are doing.  It would be a simple change.  My ladle hasn't broken yet, but I still carry a spare.  That was also part of why I bought my Henry.  My '66 is a backup gun now.

stepnmud, the rear dovetail sight in the receiver was only made to s/n 3000.I didn't know any Henry after that s/n with a second dovetail. But i could be wrong.

Howdy

You are correct, the last rifle is a Volcanic. The Volcanics were only 38 caliber and were much smaller overall than the Henry. When B. F. Henry got his marching orders from Oliver Winchester to improve on the Volcanic, the first order of business was to improve the old rocket ball ammo. The first version that Henry came up with was a 38 cal rimfire. 38 caliber was what Henry was used to from his days with Volcanic. Winchester wisely told him to go back to the drawing board and come up with a 44 cal cartridge. The entire action of the new Henry rifle had to be scaled up from the Volcanic in order to accomodate the larger round.

I had the pleasure of handling an original Volcanic a couple of years ago. I was amazed how small it was. It was about the size of a boy's 22 rimfire rifle.
That’s bad business! How long do you think I’d stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he’d pay me that much to stop robbing him, I’d stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

I'd have to have one of them Volcanic's in .38 Colt. 8) replica Uberti for the right price.

When I look down the stack of Henry (1 volcanic) rifles, my only thought is whether the Banks have cameras and alarms.  Such tiny little pay checks ................. Lordy, some fine rifles.

I wouldn't even mind if Uberti made the henry in .38.  Never mind, that would weigh a TON.  Wouldn't recoil much though.
