Best case is that you simply need to contour the end of the new extractor to allow for proper engagement.
Why did you replace the old extractor? If it was working, you might compare the contour to the new. Now if the old one was not extracting the cases, it could be that someone in the past reshaped it in an attempt to circumvent the exact problem you now find with the replacement! Check your bolt face and make sure it still has the little "shelf" (lower cartridge rim support) on the bottom. Those are often broken off, and without it, the extracted brass falls loose when the shell is withdraw.
Worst case - The rifle is a "system" and as the various parts wear, things begin to "droop."
(Same thing happens to people!
) Wear in the links, link pins, carrier and frame can all contribute to the situation. Take it a piece at a time and try to isolate the problem.
Working with old guns is like turning over rocks in the garden; Everytime you turn one over, you find another bug!
