Wrong Winchester
« on: April 28, 2009, 07:59:42 AM »
I know this is the wrong place but someone may be able to help, and it can be moved if necessary.
I am looking for a date for a Winchester '92 with serial number;- 686402. ( Thought to be about 1913, but could be sales hype.)
I've been on the Winchester Collectors website and cannot find anything about it, something about records not being available since a fire or some such.

Any help appreciated, AE.

Thanks for that Sir Charles,
strangely enough, after I posted my request I put a simple search into Google and that is the site that came up!!!
Looks like it was made in 1912, all I've got to do now is decide if I want to afford it.
The bore doesn't look bad considering it's age, but there is very little external finish and the woodwork is a little rough.
I'm building the owner some ammo for it so I may sneak up on him on the range and blag a few shots to see how it performs.

Thanks again for the input, AE.

Well, I took the ammo I built for my friend to the range today, (200gr RNFP bullet with 6gr Unique) and shooting offhand, it returned a 2"group at 25yd, through that old 1912 '92. :o
Quite pleased with myself, and the rifle, I asked how much he wanted for it. ;D
He said "make me an offer". ;)
I said, £300. ::)
He said, "make it £200, and I'll throw in the loading gear!"

Is he trying to scam me do you think, undercutting me like that ???

H#%L Batman!  I paid more than that for my 1914 SRC in .44-40 here in Canada!  If it is in usable shape, as it sounds it is, take the deal and buy him a pint every time you see him.

Hee hee hee, gotcha! ;D
Of course I'm gonna have it, my miserly Scottish soul wouldn't let me do any other. ;)
Apparently he is letting me have it at that price because of all the little jobs and favours I have done for him over the years.
But thats what I thought friends were for. Just goes to show, what goes around, comes around.

AE.

I'll let the '76's have their forum back now, thanks guy's.
