Fairly Simple Way to Smooth out your Uberti Schofield....
« on: February 09, 2007, 09:46:48 PM »
If your Schofield is new,......it will be rougher than it should be,....there's a safety block and spring that the originals didn't have that binds up the smoothness of the action,.....REMOVE THEM,....

Uberti Schofield Parts, Remove #656 and it's spring

They are very smooth I shoot mine with both 45 Colts and 45 Schofields, I use APP instead of real Black in it and it works Great........

My Schofield............

............And Again........

You have to take the barrel latch off first, it's a S@# of a #^&&H to get back so don't start if this worries you.
Then the side plate comes off ........
then the mainspring needs to be unhooked from the hammer link(115) then take the hammer out,...it will lie beneath and just drops out......

Don't overtighten the latch spring reassembling....

Regards,
Sgt Chapman

How much of a difference will this make in the guns overall smoothness, can you elaborate?

I'll point out something, here.

The intentional removal of a factory supplied, factory installed safety device can result in a heavy lawsuit, should something untoward happen.

If it's proven that 'you' removed the safety - then 'you' as the ultimately resposible party, in today's litigious society.

You might want to just disassemble and polish all the high points and areas of wear - and carefully de-burr anything that you can see - then reassemble after using a good lubricant.

It works just as well, if you take your time with the job.

Good Luck!

The part was never intended to be there in the originals,.....it smoothes the pull of the hammer up tremendously,....it takes about 15 minutes to do and will go back if you don't love it,...

This being said if you do a trigger job or modify your firearms in any other way, if you load your own ammo, if you make your own holsters,...heck the fact your just at the range shooting can get you sued for any number or reasons whether you had anything to do with the incident in question or not,.....

Yeah, on a single action 19th century replica gun that needs to be handled extra safely anyway, the safety makes no real  difference and would be the least of your worries after a shooting.  It would be about as relevant as the action job and if you handloaded the ammo.
