S&W #1-1/2
« on: December 12, 2005, 08:38:32 AM »
Hey, I thought all you S&W fans might like this. This week I saw a S&W Model 1-1/2 at a local gun shop, and I think i'm gonna pick it up this weekend. The price was so good I couldn't resist. When I get it, I'll be sure to post some pictures if you to see them. Would it be Ok to still shoot it if I use a low power round? I believe they still make the ammo for it.

Deuce:

There were two S&W 11/2 models:

1) The tip-up, in .32 rimfire and
2) The top break, in .32 centerfire.

Which one are you looking at?

I'm looking at the tip up model. Does the top break model look like a minature Model 3?

Not really. Actually it looks similar to the tip-up: birdshead grip, frame size etc.
Except, of course, it has the more modern hinge design at the bottom of the frame, a star-type extractor and no "unloading" rod.

Just picked up one of the tip-up types myself. Kinda neat little guns.

My 1 1/2 doesn't have a bird's head.  It's a square butt .32 rf five shooter.

Dixie and Navy Arms both carried ammo for it in the past...don't know who does these days.

You're right, Forty Rod. I spoke too soon. There were, I think, 3 types of the .32 RF tip up 11/2 -- the original issue, a transitional model and the third one (may actually have been called the second issue).

The first two IIRC did not have the birdshead grip, had a nonfluted cylinder and octagon? barrel. The last model had the round barrel, fluted cyl and birdshead grip. That's the one I just picked up.

I stand corrected, thanks for reminding me to engage my brain before my mouth. ;)

I'm familiar with the problem.  It came on me about the time I started talking and has gotten worse with age.  ;D
