I looked at one of the new Remingtons in a local gunshop today(he had three of the beasts). If I already didn't have a Colt XSE and  a Custom Kimber I would be sweatin' untill I had ownership of one. Who knows maybe 'need to aquire' will sit in. Nice well made gun, tight, an good quality. I talked with Remington about a month ago on another matter and asked them how buyer responce was and was advised it was better than they expected, they were well pleased. Good hogleg-can ya call a semi-auto 'a hogleg'?

Two good nick-names for the 1911 which date back to WWII:

"Ol' Slabsides" and
"Ol' Loudmouth"

'Course in the cowboy community, I think "hawgleg" is a good term for any of our side arms.

My shootin & leather working pard Lodi Lefty bought the Remingon R1 and he's real happy with it. I've shot it a number of times and it handles great, and is more accurate than I am. I bought the Para GI Expert in stainless, and like it, but if I had it to do over again I'd buy one that fit in the traditional rather than modern category. One of these days I'll have a 2nd 1911 and it will fit the traditional requirements. Too many guns to own, too little $$$

I picked up an R1 coupla months ago at Gander Mt for $649. It quickly supplanted my G21 as my favorite gun of all time (except for MaDeuce of course). I have only put a few hundred rounds of FMJ hardball thru it so far, no lead loads yet. It has been totally reliable so far with ZERO malfunctions. It was dead nutz accurate until the rear sight fell off. Somebody at the factory was asleep at the switch and failed to tighten the set screw. No big deal.

It feeds with mags that my RIA and AO choke on. I love my R1 so much I need another one and will have it when the gold dust is available.

Picked up a R1 at Whittakers for $589 plus tax . It shoots Great , no problems . I love this pistol would recommend  it to anyone wanting a 1911 .

I'm thinking about getting another 1911.  Just curious about the Remington's location of manufacture.  The last Remington I looked at was a side by side shotgun and it was Russian made.  Any hint of where this 1911 was made?  I currently have a Rock Island Armory 1911.  I put an old Ithaca slide on it and smoothed out some of the lines to make it resemble an older Colt.  But it's still half Phillipino!  I wouldn't mind having an American made 1911 that doesn't cost a thousand bucks.

It is a US made gun.  Forged frame and slide also.

check out the new Ruger SR 1911...100% made in USA......I've read that they may be had for about $650 range...

I just bought a Remington 1911R1 - $650 Canuck bucks. The dealer lists a rack of them. That's $100 less than another 'smith/dealer for the same gun.
I know they will ship to the US for those who can't find one closer to home.

The R1 seems to have the right allowable mods. I'm not sure if the mag well is bevelled ... ? I'm surprised at the mods SASS will approve, but when you consider the non-Cowboy stuff approved for SAs and lever guns, it would be hypocritical not to cut some slack for 1911s.
Is the R1 a Series '70 or '80 in design? I tried the Remington FAQ page and couldn't open the questions.

I won't be seeing my gun for a couple of weeks as I'm headed across the Rockies to visit family and I asked for shipment to be delayed. Put together a WB rig using my least offensive IPSC leather rig until I acquire a better one. I think I'll be getting a Triple K #775 from Cowboy & Shooters Supply at $60.99. Got mags and mag puches forever - stainless Randalls, Wilson, Shooting Star, Colt, Devel .... many NIB, no base pads.

I knew that old IPSC gear would come in handy someday .....
