GAF shooters are invited to participate in the November match at 5 Dogs Creek near Bakersfield, California. Match dates are November 6 and 7, with five stages per day and a potluck on Saturday. Camping is available on the range. We tried something similar two years ago, and this seemed like a great way to celebrate Veteran's Day.
We call this our Victorian Military match. GAF shooters will join in the regular monthly match with the club's SASS shooters...except that the Victorian Military category will shoot with a rifle and one revolver of a basic type issued to a military force prior to 1905, plus their regular SASS shotgun. We will shoot the same scenarios as the SASS match, with the exception that the revolver will be reloaded on the clock and the rifles will be fired at targets set out farther than typical SASS ranges (Intention is to have rifle targets at 25 to 75 yards). ALL AMMUNITION MUST BE SASS-LEGAL !!! Think of this as a rather informal version of battle rifle category.
The intent is to allow shooters to use combinations such as a Krag and double-action .38 Colt or Smith & Wesson; SMLE and Webley; Spencer and SAA; and so on. We will grant fairly wide latitude to encourage shooters to give this a try...but no semiautomatic pistols are permitted. If you have any doubts or questions about the equipment you intend to use, please contact me and we can discuss specifics. Shooting in uniform is encouraged, but in the spirit of tempting folks to try it out we will understand if you only have a partial uniform.
Basic information about 5 Dogs Creek is available on the club website at
