I learned to drink beer with Dan and John Fod Coley under the bridge on Dowdy Ferry Rd outside Dallas in the 60s.
They were both good friends of my cousin, John Wilson.

It's been pretty nice here, darn cold though... supposedly getting snow tomorrow, it keeps getting pushed back.

Sometimes I wonder
If you even know
That I'm starin' at you
Or if you even care
Sometimes I think
I'll just go somewhere
Could be anywhere
Cause my heart
Can't take the pain
Of another day
In this cold, cold rain

Sometimes I reach out
To touch you
Feel you turn away
Somethin' I've done
Must have hurt you
But you never say
What made your
Sweet love change
In this cold, cold rain

And I'm drowin' in
Tears that I've cried
And I'm chokin' on
Feelin's inside
Oh, my heart
Can't take the pain
Of another day
In the cold, cold rain

(Instrumental)

One day and it won't be long
You'll leave me standin' here
Wavin' goodbye to our love
Watchin' it disappear
Just like a slow movin' train
In the cold, cold rain

And I'm drowin' in
Tears that I've cried
And I'm chokin' on
Feelin's inside
Oh, my heart
Can't take the pain
Of another day
In this cold, cold rain

Cold cold rain...

here's a great song that shows there's at least hope with country...
it helped inspire my drawing
"Between Raising Hell And Amazing Grace"

I was raised by the good book
learned to work hard every day
Thought that if you can't say something good
there's nothing good to say
And I caught on pretty early it's no use to work
no harder than you play
So I guess that's how I ended up this way

[Chorus:]
Somewhere between raising hell and amazing grace
Is a place I keep finding myself
Yeah I get a little crazy trying to have a little fun
Then I end up back where I started from
Down on my knees, I pray
Oh Lord let me see another day
Somewhere between raising hell and amazing grace

Well I give everything I got, try to give more than I take
For Heaven's sake I keep on smiling
no matter what comes my way
And I may be passin' out on Friday night
But come Sunday I'll be passing the collection plate

[Chorus:]
Somewhere between raising hell and amazing grace
Is a place I keep finding myself
Yeah I get a little crazy trying to have a little fun
Then I end up back where I started from
Down on my knees, I pray
Oh Lord let me see another day
Somewhere between raising hell and amazing grace

Yeah I know I'm a sinner, but I've got faith
Oh my good side is what he's gonna see
When I'm standing at them Pearly Gates
He'll have nothing but mercy for me

[Chorus:]
Somewhere between raising hell and amazing grace
Is a place I keep finding myself
Yeah I get a little crazy trying to have a little fun
Then I end up back where I started from
Down on my knees, I pray
Oh Lord let me see another day
Somewhere between raising hell and amazing grace

no reason why you can't be "young and crazy" now Tex.  It's the heart that counts.

Willie, If I would have know I was gonna live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.

you know, a lot of my older friends have said that.  But another one, in the same situation said, "well hell, I'm old, so be it... I earned it."

lol he's a CWO5 in the Coast Guard... salty guy.  35+ years in and I think they'll have too boot him out, or bury him at sea.  He always started every one of his watches with "ready to be a hero today?!"

all I got to say is that thanks to you and Leo, I'm where I am right now... pursuing a dream I never thought was possible, and now... with ever door open to me.

thanks

your very welcome Tex, I'm serious.  you really helped me get back on track.

Here's another great song I like from Big and Rich, from their original album.

"Live this Life"
Met a man on the street last night said his name was Jesus
Met a man on the street last night
Thought he was crazy till I watched him heal the blind man
I watched him heal the blind man now I see yeah
I'll live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore
Then I will walk yes I will walk with patience through that open door
I have no fear angels follow me where ever I may go
I'll live this live until this life won't let me live here anymore

Met a girl in a chair with wheels but no one else would see here
Met a girl in a chair with wheels
Every one was so afraid to even look down on her
And she just spread her little wings and flew away
I'll live this life until this live won't let me live here anymore
And I will walk yes I will walk with patience though that open door
I have no fear angels follow me where ever I may go
I live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore
Live here anymore

Met a kid on a bridge last night contemplating freedom
Met a kid on a bridge last night
And he said I'm tired of this maddening life and I'm ready to go meet Jesus
I said he's a friend of mine met him just last night it's all right yeah
It's all right yeah
I'll live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore
Then I will walk yes I will walk with patience through that open door
I have no fears angels follow me where ever I may go
I'll live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore
Live here anymore
Met a man on the street last night said his name was Jesus
Met a man on the street last night

That's awesome, they remind me of one of my fave cult bands the "Black Rebel Motorcycle Club" combined with "Gaelic Storm!"  That was a great song.

hehe, can't help it now,
here's my favorite song from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
"Ain't No Easy Way Out"

kinda poetic for me right now... lol

lyrics are simple too, but they don't need to be much more

It's easy to fall in love
When you fall in love you know you're done
you got easy eyes to hunt
when the world above needs your blood
and the cold vain to the richest man
They're paid away to steal our hand
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out

It's easy to fall in love
When you're on your luck you know you're done
and the last kiss had a foolish cause
now your tired eyes could only haunt
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out

There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out
There ain't no easy way no there ain't no easy way out
It's easy to fall in love when you fall in love you know you're done

That was a good listen.  Going to go through the rest of them.  Thank ya.

Had this one on this morning from the Live in Aught Three album

Hear the trucks on the highway, And the tickin' of the clocks
There's a ghost of a moon in the afternoon, Bullet holes in the mailbox
Bullet holes in the mailbox, Keyholes in my mind
Too long in the wasteland
Too long in the wasteland
I've fallin' behind

She said won't you come see me, When the sun goes down
It'll be just like the old days, When I used to let you hang around
Well I don't know, I might not speak the language any more
Too long in the wasteland
Too long in the wasteland
I've closed some doors

People in the village, Watch the children play
At the sight of a stranger, They call the kids away
Just leave that man alone, I hear the mothers say
Too long in the wasteland
Too long in the wasteland
What's made him that way

I hadn't intended, To bend the rules
Whiskey don't make liars, It just makes fools
So I didn't mean to say it, But I meant what I said
Too long in the wasteland
Too long in the wasteland
Must have gone to my head

Jet trails in the sunset, a long way away
cuttin' cross the horizon, At the edge of the day
And it calls out to me, Come fly away, I've been
Too long in the wasteland
Too long in the wasteland
I believe I'll have to stay

Too long in the wasteland
Too long in the wasteland
I'll have to stay

There's a ghost of a moon in the afternoon
Bullet holes in the mailbox
Bullet holes in the mailbox
"When you have to shoot, shoot.  Don't talk."
Tuco--The Good the Bad and the Ugly

"First comes smiles, then lies.  Last is gunfire."
