Mix & match, BP-smokeless
« on: August 27, 2020, 03:28:09 PM »
Knowing that you don't shoot smokeless lubed bullets over bp (real),and clean barrel all day. Can you shoot bp lubed bullets over smokeless powder ? Without the barrel getting all gunked up ? Just curious.

We will shoot BP after smokiless frequently. When you are shooting smokiless with stainless the fouling is very difficult to remove from the front of the cylinder especially. If you shoot BP for 4 or 5 stages when you get ready to clean the gun the fouling comes off with soap and water easily. We never clean any of our CAS guns when switching from smokiless to BP (or BP subs) they always clean much easier than if you have been shooting smokiless.

PS just reread your ? and yes I frequently use BP lubed bullets with smokiless and have no problems.

BP lubes work superb with smokeless powder.

SPG even brags about how good their lube works with smokeless.

When I size and lube my cast bullets I use the same lube (SPG) no matter if they will be powered by black powder or smokeless. Sometimes black powder bullets get lubed with Dick's Pearl lube if I feel like cleaning out my sizer of SPG. If I'm going to reload milder loads in my .357 Mag, 44 Special, or 44 Mag revolvers, a few times I've used the same softer lead bullets I use for reloading my conversion black powder guns (38 Spec and 44 Colt), but generally I use a harder cast bullet on the 357 and 44's, some with gas checks. Never a problem using the same lube for smokeless or blackpowder.
