I have that book and for some reason I thought the rifle would be at the Museum of the Fur Trade. I was surprised when I saw it at Fort Robinson. I think a lot of curators really don't grasp what some of us are after as far as detail. In any event it is a pretty simple type rifle. It has the Gloucher (sic?) lock with the name stamped on the lock plate- pretty close to the one sold by TOW and the barrel looks straight, not stamped, a plain stock. The brass butt plate has a fairly deep curve to it. The lock washer is brass and could easily be made. The trigger looks like the Lyman type and is pinned to the stock. The time period is a little late for a mountain man but I like the plains/ army scout time period just as much.
