Spark is needed for some conversation!
« on: August 01, 2006, 05:06:08 AM »
I have decided since our USFA SAA's just seem to keep on shooting without any major problems to talk about, that it must be time to search and buy some new ones to spark some conversations.  So I have some questions!  I would like to get a Rodeo in .44 calibre, but I am not sure if I can get one ordered in .44 calibre?  If I can, should I go for the famous .44-40 Winchester cartridge, or make Keith and Taffin happy and go for the .44 Special?  Or is it possible to get dual cylinders for a Rodeo?

Next question is what would be a good calibre choice for a nice SAA Bisley?  In the day, .32-30 was top choice with .38-40 second, .45 third, and .44-40 fourth.  I am leaning towards the .38-40, but I am not sure on availability of factory loads in this calibre?

Next question!  If you had a choice between USFA's Pre-War SAA or a Doug Turnbull USFA SAA, which would you prefer and why?

Last question!  I want to finish off my Inspector series collection and I am wondering which Inspector's gun would have been more apt to become a shortened 5 1/2" refurbished gun when SAA's were being brought back into service after the lackluster performance with the smaller double action 38's, Carr or Clark?

Doc,
Regarding the Rodeo, we'll make you one in either 44.

Thought I'd try to add some spark by bringing up an old topic:

Doc,
Did you mean 32-30 or 32-20?

Well, I think I would have to go for the 32-20 - pretty much for sentimental reasons.  My first gun ever was a '92 Winchester in that caliber.  That was over 45 years ago.  One accurate gun.  Still have it.
Sentiment aside, I seem to recall reading somewhere that the 32-20 was/is a pretty accurate, flat shooting round.  That might be the reason for it's popularity in the Bisley.
