Trapdoor wins!
« on: October 11, 2012, 06:46:26 PM »
Using a (reproduction) M1873 Springfield carbine for the Skirmish runs, and an M1884 rifle for Long Range, all loaded with black powder;  I was able to win the 2012 GAF Grand Muster in Garnnet KS, this last October 5-6-7.  What a great time!  Great people, good food, drinkin' an' tellin' lies around the campfire in the Primitive camp area.

Booming rifles and falling plates.  Trapdoors, rolling blocks, a Martini-Henri carbine.  Krags, Spencers, a Steyr, a Schmidt Rubin and a Vetterli  among the repeaters.  Some of the best action shooting you can do with a big single shot!

This is a video from the GAF Regional in Nebraska that shows it pretty well.  Be happy to answer any questions you might have after you see it.  Generaly a Skirmish run is 15-25 knock down rifle targets spaced out using terrain and cover to require movement to engage. Initial range may be anywhere from 25 to 75 yards. If you're missing, move up. There may be 5-7 handgun targets somewhere as well.  No misses or target order, engage as you see and knock them down.

And a collection of stills from the National in KS.

Thanks Drydock ... the video explained it.  The Leopold SWAT Team matches use the same type of target set ups - unknown and not at uniform exact distances

Here's a link to a another video of a GAF match; this one the Expansion Era Side Match. Same basic rules, just different guns (1900-1916) Personally I like the knock-downs as you know when you hit them.  ;D
