This revolver has been shot 20 times.

Its perfect, same as new actually. Outstandely smooth. Flawless. Comes with all Smith papers and Smith hard case it came from when shipped from Smith and Wesson.

Am asking 2000.oo plus 15.oo shipping.

Would consider a trade/partial trade on other firearm-s.  A Colt second gen '60Army, Sharps rifle, 7 1/2 inch USFA SSA 'old frame', forged frame Rem conversion with both cartridge and black powder cylinders, 'might be some items I would consider.

I can provide more information and pictures.

Just to clarify for everyone, I suppose you refer to a modern-made "Smith & Wesson Schofield 2000", as opposed to an original 19th Century Schofield?

OK, ignorant question here. Were the "new" S&W schofield's actually made by S&W or were they imported and stamped with the S&W logo?

They were built by the S&W 'Performance Center' and were reverse-engineered from a couple of originals - including one that belonged to Roy Jinks, noted Historian of that firm.

They feature a floating firing pin that's frame-mounted, were CNC-machined, and feature those markings as found on the original production - to include the 'US' on the butt and the inspector's cartouche on the walnut grips.

In short - they're a 'real' Smith & Wesson product - and not an Italian clone.

There was a post over on the SASS wire that S&W Performance will again offer a Model 3 in 2008 in 45 Schofield and 44 Special

The only problem with them is that when they supposedly reverse engineered them from an original, they left out a very important feature if you want to shoot BP out of them.  They deleted the gas ring on the front of the cylinder and as a consequence they foul very quickly with BP.

I doubt they cared.

At the time - 1999-2000 - there were relatively few folks shooting blackpowder anywhere beyond the North-South Skirmish Association and the buckskinners - but there were a helluva lot of folks shooting smokeless - and most folks look askance at the extra cleaning that blackpowder requires, and the rotten egg smell associated with the process.

Smith & Wesson wanted a revolver that would tap into the burgeoning C&WAS market - but they also wanted one that the average guy would want to shoot - and shoot something that he could buy off the shelf - and that meant smokeless...

'If' they are going to tool up once more - and 'if' there are enough shooters who feel that they want the gas ring - then now's the time to tell them.

But I doubt anyone will - just as I doubt they'll go back into production, since they got rid of what few spare parts they'd stockpiled a couple of years ago - according to the guys I know at the 'Performance Center'.

It cost a lot to build the piece - thus it cost a lot to buy one - and the clones were priced far, far lower, and were more easily purchased with what little 'disposable income' as might be available.

Vaya,
