My prettiest USFA?
« on: November 19, 2015, 02:54:06 AM »
I mentioned a 32-20 I wanted to sell to a friend the other day.  Hadn't looked at the gun since I bought it last year.  Paid a premium for it then, for what I thought obvious reasons.  My friend wanted it sight unseen and offered me $50 more than what I had asked him for.  Guess he really wanted it!  Knew Lou would appreciate it as much as I would, so I passed it along.

Forgot just how good a new 1st gen gun could look with fire blue screws and decent ivory.

Nice gun.

I have a few I'm going to part with shortly.  Thought I'd give some here the chance to avoid the sharks and blood letting if there was  any interest.  Couldn't figure out how to list them here so posted them on the Colt forum...sorry guys.

9 guns total.
All but one gun numbered to its box, sleeves and papers..

Sorry I missed out on that one (maybe… don't know what you asked for it).  Would have made a nice companion piece to my 32-20, 1892 Winchester.

The blue and case .32s are gone now but I have another favorite.  This Rodeo II is in .38 Special.  For the most part the matte nickel finish has been polished to a golden glow on these guns using a B-C lead cloth.  One of a consecutive numbered pair.  Its mate wears old, nicely figured, one piece ivory from Paul Persinger.

My Dear Yahoody -
that sir, is brilliant.

I am reminded of an older couple down here, had a "long defunct" 2 pump gas station outside of a near ghost-town in Northern NM. You had to know they were there, and knock. They would let folks in to look around, they had coverted the gas-station to a tourist shop, and and a 25x40 foot space filled floor to ceiling with PERFECT Maria Martinez Blackware pottery.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Martinez

Every time they needed money, they would take one down and sell it in Santa Fe for $10k - $20k .

stay healthy!

pretty is as pretty does.
I want reliability and function first then pretty afterward. It can be a show stopper that takes you breath away, but if it does not work properly every time it is an interesting paper weight.
This is not to say my guns are abused, but do show shiny spots from honest work. They are cleaned carefully after every use and stored in a safe (mostly) .

At least that is my opinion i might be wrong, but that is just me.

I agree with you Bunk.  Gun has to actually shoot first...to perfect point of aim and function 100%.  Or as you said it is just a paper weight.  Pretty is one thing...and guns I generally will keep for investment and resale.  Like that 32-20 on top.  The nickel .38 I shoot..a lot.  As I do most of my guns some pretty some not.   They don't get lavish care or a lot of cleaning.  They do get shot.  Carried some and more likely to sit on the nightstand or my desk than in the safe.

A Harper engraved Colt.

And a gun I originally called the "Cutter".   Because how easy it cut cards set on edge.  Three cut cards in 3 shots.  Just shooting a bit low @ 10yds.  L Series Rodeo btw.

Now it is dressed up some and a "Unicorn"...shot the target shown below in a hurry on a cold windy day last winter, right after I got it back from the engraver.  Had him inlay a gold  Unicorn on the frame.  My comment as to a USFA / Colt comparison.
