I have seen references about the use of Straw or Palm Style Hats by the US Army in the southwest. Could someone recommend a good vender?

Plantation Hat, used in the South West during the 1870's -80's , made of Palm.
Or a skipper, made of straw is seen in some old photos of mid 1880's and 90's IW Officers.

Also in reading "With the First Maine" a captain reaccounts his capture and escape while wearing a palm hat, so there is documentation on them being used by Federal troops in Virginia in the Civil War too.

Thank you for the information.
I'll be looking into one of these.

In June of 1876 many of the 7th Cavalry bought straw hats at the Yellowstone Depot from a sutler.
Most likely of the Plantation Style, here is Sunbodys palm leaf version.

Many Civil War vendors carry an appropriate styel straw hat. I can recommend Regimental Quartermaster and Fall Creek Sutlery.
