I have heard of "The Wild Colonial Boy, Jack Dugan was his name". But there are others.  Her's one I've never heard of;

We did have our share of Outlaws here Downunder, and Ned was up near the top of the list.

Here's the lyrics and tune of the song.  We used to sing it around the Happy Hour piano at our officers mess.  It was very popular with IRA sympathisers in the '60s.  (Not us!  We were just drunkenly bawling out a catchy tune.)  Other google hits show the name as "Doolan"  Apparently Mick Jagger even sang it!

Thats a good article for high school students.

I have heard other verses, but can't recall all the words now.

We had a few here in New Zealand to. I think a few jumped the ditch and arrived here from the Australian goldfields. My own great grandfather who was an American looked awefully like Ben whateverhisname was the Australian bushranger - so much so that the  only photo I have of my Ggrandfather sits beside a photo I got out of the Australian pix mag when I was a wee fella and they cannot be told apart - I have often wondered.

The first school concert I can remember I was one of the kids who sang the wild colonial boy. Irish catholic nuns, an Irish priest and an audience that had predominately Irish ancestors  had every one singing along.
All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!
