Of course, the truth often makes for dull movies.  ;)

BOO !!!!  HISSSSSSS !!!!  I prefer the cloud of dust, the HEARTY HO HO SILVER.  MATT DILLON in the street at 1:15 and into the Saloon
for cocktails with Miss Kitty (Deeply in Lust was I).

All this well researched history as it really was, was/is dull and BORING!!  Lynching a Bad Guy before breakfast had to be Due Rigger.
After all, CAS is based on what could have been, not what really was.  Oh, and normally, when there was an actual documented Bank
or Stagecoach robbery, the Posse usually caught em forthwith and either shot em to pieces or hung em immediately.  Absolutely no
future in Bank Robbery.

Come to think of it, we'd be ahead of the game if we still did it that way  8)

Never did figure out why there was a US Marshall in Dodge City and why he had his nose in everything not his business, a Deputy Marshall, maybe, but about all he'd have to do with out another commission would be keeping alcohol from entering the Nations to the SE, lot of extra distance to haul it also, Great Bend or Wichita would be a better base.     ;)

When people have said that concealed carry would lead to "Wild West" type shoot outs. I would explain that Chicago has more shootings in one day than Tombstone had in it's entire history. An armed society is a polite society.

A U.S. Marshal would be needed for federal crimes, of which there were far fewer then than now. As well, it was political patronage.

Quote
On July 1, 1870, Congress created the Department of Justice and gave it supervision over U.S. Marshals and Attorneys.

1872   U.S. Marshals assisted Internal Revenue agents (who had no arrest powers) in enforcing the whiskey tax laws.

1880   Prisoner Custody in the 1880's

Would have had an office in Topeka at the Fed Court House, would have sent deputies to do the work.  I'm not allowed to watch westerns with my wife.  Something about the Cartwrights and all the land they stole. ::)
